About the Role
UCL is seeking to appoint a Lecturer specialising in art and visual cultures from approximately 1300 to 1700. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and collaborative department and contribute to both teaching and research at an internationally leading level.
The successful candidate will begin in September 2026 and will play an important role in strengthening the department’s expertise in early modern visual and material cultures.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Student Engagement
Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
Supervise dissertations and support student academic development
Contribute to curriculum design and innovative teaching practices
Research & Scholarship
- Produce high-quality, original research with international impact
Publish in leading academic journals and contribute to the discipline
Engage with current theoretical and critical debates in art history
Academic Contribution
- Participate in departmental activities, seminars, and collaborations
Contribute to a supportive and intellectually vibrant academic community
Build links with external cultural institutions and research networks
About You
Essential Requirements
- PhD in History of Art or a closely related field
Strong research profile with evidence of publications
Expertise in art and visual cultures of the period c.1300–1700
Ability to deliver engaging and effective teaching
Research Interests
