OOH Veterinary Surgeon – Large Animal(UK Visa Sponsorship)

Job Description

Make a Real Difference to Rural Farming Communities

At Seafield Vets, supporting farmers isn’t just part of the job—it’s at the heart of everything we do. Our team works closely with beef and sheep producers across Moray, helping them protect their livestock, livelihoods, and long-term herd health.

We are currently looking for an Out-of-Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join our Farm24 emergency service team. This role focuses on urgent farm and equine cases during evenings and weekends, ensuring local farmers have dependable veterinary support whenever emergencies occur.

This position is ideal for a vet who enjoys hands-on emergency work, particularly those with a surgical interest in large animal practice.

The Role

Emergency Veterinary Care

As part of the Farm24 team, your primary responsibility will be responding to farm and equine emergencies outside normal working hours. By dedicating a team specifically to out-of-hours care, our daytime vets can focus on preventative medicine and herd health planning.

Your work will include:

  • Responding to large animal and equine emergency calls
  • Performing surgical obstetrics and emergency procedures
  • Assessing urgent cases and delivering practical treatment plans
  • Building trusted relationships with local farmers and rural businesses
  • Communicating clearly with daytime veterinary teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintaining high professional standards in line with guidance from Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs
  • You will operate independently during your shift but remain fully supported by the wider practice network.

A Diverse and Rewarding Caseload

Working in rural Scotland brings a wide range of clinical challenges. You can expect:

  • Busy lambing and calving seasons with regular obstetric work
  • Equine emergency care and urgent farm visits
  • Seasonal fluctuations allowing quieter recovery periods during summer

During your on-call week, emergencies can be handled from your home if you live locally or from the comfortable accommodation provided by the practice.

A Unique Work-Life Balance

This role offers an unusual rota designed to provide significant time off.

Primary rota option:

  • 1 week on, 3 weeks off
  • Monday–Thursday: 6:00 PM – 8:00 AM
  • Friday 6:00 PM – Monday 8:00 AM
  • Alternative rota options (such as 1 week on / 1 week off) can be discussed depending on your preference.

This structure gives you the freedom to enjoy Scotland’s incredible landscapes—from exploring the Cairngorms to outdoor activities along the Moray coastline.
