The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER), part of The Bartlett Faculty at UCL, brings together four internationally recognised institutes delivering research-led teaching and real-world impact:

We are seeking a Lecturer (Teaching) to join the UCL Energy Institute — a global centre for research and education focused on transforming energy demand, decarbonising the built environment, and using data-driven methods to shape sustainable futures.
This role is ideal for an academic who is passionate about quantitative analysis, applied data science, and educating the next generation of energy and built environment professionals.
The Role
You will play a central teaching and leadership role across two specialist MSc programmes:
- MSc Smart Energy and the Built Environment (SEBE)
- MSc Energy Systems and Data Analysis (ESDA)
Your core responsibilities will include:
Teaching & Module Leadership
- Leading the Data Analytics in the Smart Built Environment optional module (SEBE).
- Teaching on the Energy Data Analytics in the Built Environment core module (ESDA).
- Contributing to additional modules across MSc and BSc programmes, equivalent to three modules overall.
- Preparing and managing Moodle learning environments.
- Delivering lectures and seminars.
- Designing and marking assessments.
- Providing academic and pastoral support to students.
- You will also supervise MSc dissertations and contribute to occasional teaching across related programmes.
Programme Leadership
For the MSc Smart Energy and the Built Environment (SEBE), you will take on the role of Course Director (Programme Lead).
This includes:
- Leading programme delivery and academic quality
- Supporting recruitment and marketing activities
- Coordinating induction activities
- Preparing documentation for exam boards
- Ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards (Office for Students regulatory framework
- Leading on student experience, wellbeing and academic progression
- You will help ensure programmes align with UK higher education quality expectations UK Quality Code for Higher Education
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
- A PhD in a quantitative discipline relevant to energy demand, buildings, or data analytics (or equivalent experience).
- Experience using statistical or data science methods in research or teaching.
- Teaching experience in higher education.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- A collaborative, student-centred approach.
- An understanding of energy policy and sustainability in the UK context is advantageous UK Net Zero Strategy overview
- Knowledge of data governance and ethical data use is also valuable UK GDPR guidance
