Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and patient-focused Clinical Pharmacist to join a supportive and progressive pharmacy department within Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. This role is ideal for pharmacists who want to develop their clinical expertise while contributing to a modern, innovative medicines optimisation service that improves patient outcomes.

Applications are welcomed from trainee pharmacists due to qualify after the upcoming GPhC assessment, newly registered pharmacists, and experienced pharmacists from community, primary care, or other sectors who are interested in transitioning into hospital practice. Flexible or part-time working arrangements can also be discussed.

What You Will Be Doing

Clinical & Professional Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe and effective medicines optimisation across a range of clinical settings
  • Accurately document clinical interventions and contribute to high standards of patient care
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support evidence-based prescribing
  • Participate in service improvement, audit activity, and quality initiatives
  • Develop clinical knowledge through structured rotations across different specialties
  • Engage in continuing professional development and learning opportunities

Team & Service Contribution

  • Collaborate with senior pharmacists, including independent prescribers
  • Support ward teams, specialist services, and community hospital settings
  • Contribute to education and mentoring within the pharmacy workforce
  • Help strengthen patient-centred pharmaceutical care across acute and mental health services

Training, Development & Support

You will join a well-established rotational programme designed to broaden your clinical exposure across multiple practice areas. Structured supervision is provided by experienced senior pharmacists, medicines optimisation technicians, and multidisciplinary colleagues.

Person Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Essential Experience

Desirable

  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical teams
  • Involvement in audit, research, or service improvement
