An Opportunity to Lead and Transform Older Adult Mental Health Services

We are seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary service supporting older adults across community settings on the Isle of Wight.

This role offers the chance to shape high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals presenting with:

  • Complex functional mental illness
  • Cognitive impairment and memory difficulties
  • Dementia and associated behavioural challenges
  • Long-term physical health conditions impacting mental wellbeing

You will work collaboratively with established teams while helping to strengthen clinical pathways and improve continuity of care across services.

Your Role and Impact

As a senior clinical leader, you will:

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide consultant-level expertise within community mental health and memory services
  • Lead development of care pathways for functional disorders in older adults
  • Support integrated, person-centred care planning

Multidisciplinary Working

  • Collaborate with psychologists, nurses, therapists, and social care teams
  • Offer consultation to crisis, home treatment, and community services
  • Promote seamless care across organisational boundaries

Quality and Governance

  • Deliver evidence-based assessments and management plans
  • Maintain high standards in risk assessment and clinical documentation
  • Produce statutory reports when required

Service Development

  • Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement
  • Strengthen inclusive services that respect cultural diversity
  • Support service transformation across the Trust
  • Supervision and Professional Support
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentoring
  • Guide teams managing complex presentations

Legal and Statutory Duties

Undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health Act, including Section 12 and Approved Clinician functions.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise

  • Section 12 Approval
  • Approved Clinician Status

The General Medical Council maintains the official register confirming doctors meet required standards to practise safely in the UK.
