This Night Veterinary Surgeon position at Medivet Thurmaston offers a unique 7-on / 21-off rota, giving you predictable clinical blocks and extended time to travel, rest, or pursue personal interests—while maintaining a stable and rewarding ECC career.

Based at our purpose-built 24-hour hospital opened in 2024, you’ll have access to modern facilities and the autonomy that comes with a sole-charge night role.

The Clinical Environment

You’ll be working in a fully equipped emergency setting with the tools needed to deliver high-quality care, including:

  • Advanced ultrasound
  • Orthopaedic surgical equipment
  • Digital and dental radiography
  • Endoscopy
  • Tonometry
  • Modern inpatient and surgical facilities
  • This environment supports confident clinical decision-making and efficient emergency treatment when patients need it most.

Your Key Responsibilities

In this position you will:

  • Provide emergency and critical care consultations and surgical treatment
  • Manage a varied overnight caseload independently
  • Stabilise and treat urgent and complex cases
  • Create clear treatment plans and communicate effectively with pet owners
  • Maintain professional and regulatory standards at all times
  • Share knowledge and contribute to the wider Medivet clinical community

About You

Essential requirements

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon registered with RCVS (MRCVS)
  • Strong all-round medical and surgical capability
  • Previous emergency or critical care experience
  • Confidence working in a sole-charge environment

Salary

  • Prorated salary based on 24.5 hours per week
  • Up to £45,937.50 per year
  • Equivalent full-time salary: £75,000 FTE
  • Employees in the UK must receive a written statement outlining pay and working hours from day one of employment.
