Job Description
About the Opportunity
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people at times of acute emotional distress? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professionally registered Band 6 clinician to join the NYYS CAMHS Crisis Team, a specialist 24/7 service supporting young people under 18 and their families across most of North Yorkshire, York and Selby.
This fast-paced and rewarding role sits at the heart of crisis care, helping children and young people remain safe during periods of significant mental health difficulty, while supporting families and carers through compassionate, evidence-based interventions.
What the Role Involves
As a CAMHS Crisis Clinician, you will play a central role in providing timely, high-quality mental health support by:
- Undertaking comprehensive psycho-social and mental health assessments
- Completing risk assessments and developing clear, robust safety and care plans
- Working collaboratively with young people, carers, and partner agencies during periods of high distress
- Providing calm, confident leadership during crisis situations, including acting as shift coordinator
- Supporting and guiding junior staff, students, and newly qualified colleagues
- Contributing to locality-wide case coordination and shared caseload management
- Responding to referrals from the NHS 111 mental health line (Option 2), ensuring appropriate triage and onward care
- You will work autonomously while remaining closely connected to a skilled multidisciplinary team, ensuring consistent, safe, and compassionate care across the service.
Working Pattern & Location
This is a 24/7 service, and the role includes rotational day, night, weekend, and bank holiday shifts. While posts are currently based in York and Scarborough, clinicians are expected to travel across the locality to meet clinical demand. Business mileage can be claimed, or a team pool car may be used.
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be able to travel independently across the locality. Reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from registered clinicians with a strong interest in child and adolescent mental health, who demonstrate resilience, empathy, and sound clinical judgement.
Essential Requirements
- Current UK professional registration (e.g. NMC, HCPC, Social Work England)
- Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience, including completed preceptorship/competency framework

- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and in high-pressure environments
Desirable
- Leadership or management experience
- Training in specific therapeutic models (e.g. CBT, family therapy)
- Experience facilitating parenting or family interventions
