About the Role

We are seeking a friendly, adaptable, and highly organized Admissions Clerk / Receptionist to join our dynamic team at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. This role plays a key part in providing a first-class admissions and reception service, ensuring patients receive a smooth and compassionate experience from admission to discharge.

As part of the admissions team, you will work closely with nursing, medical, and administrative colleagues to maintain accurate patient records, manage bed availability, and support daily operations. Flexibility, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients using the hospital Patient Administration System in line with policies and procedures
  • Liaise effectively with nursing, medical, and administrative staff regarding patient movements
  • Maintain up-to-date ward activity records and ensure hospital bed state accuracy at all times
  • Provide general reception support at the main reception desk within the Women’s and Children’s Hospital
  • Supply wards with patient notes, ID labels, and ensure hospital notes are accurately tracked
  • Record patient attendances outside of clinics and ensure outcomes are correctly logged
  • Use hospital systems accurately and in accordance with role requirements
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across clinical and administrative teams using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Undertake additional duties as allocated by the Team Leader or Service Manager

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

  • Essential: O Level / GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths, English, and one other subject
  • Proficiency in keyboard skills

Knowledge & Experience

  • Desirable: Previous office experience, hospital experience, familiarity with CaMIS / patient administration systems

Personal Attributes & Skills

  • Essential: Confident, articulate, adaptable, organized, and self-motivated
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines
  • Desirable: Diplomatic, customer care experience, ability to work under emotional circumstances, and experience working unsupervised
