About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Technologist to join our Radiotherapy Physics Equipment Engineering team at the Queen’s Centre, Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham. This is a hands-on role providing technical and engineering support for specialist radiotherapy equipment, ensuring safe and effective operation for patient care.
You will work alongside a friendly, skilled team responsible for maintaining six Varian linear accelerators, two Siemens CT scanners, a superficial Xstrahl radiotherapy unit, a Flexitron brachytherapy afterloader, and a Papillon contact radiotherapy machine, as well as associated quality control and test equipment.
The team prides itself on UKAS accreditation to the BS70000 MPACE standard and ongoing ISO9001 certification, demonstrating a strong commitment to quality, safety, and clinical excellence.
Flexible working hours are encouraged, supporting the 6:30 am – 8:00 pm service, providing coverage across patient treatment and technical maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Technologist, your duties will include:
- Faultfinding, emergency repairs, calibration, and maintenance of high-value radiotherapy and radiation monitoring equipment
- Ensuring all equipment is calibrated to manufacturer and radiation protection standards
- Supporting advanced radiotherapy computer systems and software
- Supervising and training junior staff or colleagues in technical procedures
- Assisting scientific staff with service development and the integration of new techniques into clinical practice
- Contributing to departmental quality assurance, audits, and standard operating procedures
- Supporting a patient-focused environment while maintaining equipment safety and reliability
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in science or engineering
- Registration as a Clinical Technologist
Desirable Qualifications
- IT qualifications (hardware/software support)
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Expertise in repair, maintenance, and calibration of electronic/electromechanical equipment
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and professional standards (IR(ME)R, IRR, ISO9002, BSI, BS 70000:2017)
- Experience providing technical service support for complex equipment
- Understanding of server administration and networking
Desirable:
- Experience in patient-oriented environments
- Supporting computer-controlled systems and servers
