About the Role
Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and the Bodmin Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled MRI Radiographer to join our friendly, forward-thinking Imaging team.
This role is ideal for a motivated radiographer with specialist MRI experience, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care.
You will work across both RCHT and the Bodmin CDC, delivering a wide range of MRI examinations using four Philips 1.5T MRI scanners. The Bodmin CDC has been operational since June 2024 and continues to expand access to diagnostic services across Cornwall.
About the Department
Our MRI service is well established and highly supportive, with:
- Student radiographers from Exeter and Plymouth Universities
- Training roles for Radiologists
- Assistant Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners, Reporting Radiographers, and Consultant Radiographers in post
We are deeply committed to education, professional development, and advanced practice, with an active CPD and audit programme involving staff at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
As an MRI Radiographer, you will:
- Perform a wide range of cross-sectional MRI examinations
- Work closely with the MRI Team Leader and Advanced Practitioners to deliver a safe, efficient, and cost-effective service
- Contribute to a 13-hour, 7-day service (07:30–20:30), working shifts aligned to these hours
- Act as Shift Co-ordinator when required, overseeing workflow, prioritisation, and staffing
- Make operational decisions out of hours when senior staff are not present
- Justify imaging referrals within scope of practice, following Royal College of Radiologists guidance
- Maintain compliance with MHRA MRI safety standards
While there is currently no MRI on-call service, postholders must be willing to support future out-of-hours or on-call arrangements if introduced.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- DCR or BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
- Current HCPC registration
- Proven competency in MRI
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience
- Experience with IV cannulation and administration of IV contrast
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in MRI
- Experience working as a shift co-ordinator
Exposure to other imaging modalities
