About the Role
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading is inviting applications for Lecturers in Psychology to join its vibrant, collaborative, and research-active academic community.
This permanent position offers an excellent opportunity for scholars who are passionate about both teaching and research. You will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervise student research projects, and develop an independent research programme that strengthens the School’s profile and impact.
Building on our strong performance in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF)—where the School climbed ten places in the rankings—you will be encouraged and supported to grow a research group and secure external funding.
Areas of Expertise
We welcome applications from candidates whose teaching and research expertise aligns with, or complements, existing strengths in areas such as:
- Health psychology
- Developmental psychopathology
- Environmental sustainability and psychology
- Forensic and criminal psychology
We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with interdisciplinary research interests, including those using TMS and MRI methodologies, or those engaging with our specialist facilities such as the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN) and the Anxiety and Depression in Young People (AnDY) Research Clinic.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Supervise student dissertations and research projects
- Develop and sustain an independent, high-quality research programme
- Publish in internationally recognised journals
- Seek and secure external research funding
- Contribute positively to the academic life and collegial culture of the School
About You
You will be well suited to this role if you can demonstrate:
- A PhD in Psychology or a closely related discipline
- Recognised expertise in at least one of the identified subject areas
- A strong publication record appropriate to your career stage
- Clear potential to attract external research funding
- Experience of high-quality teaching and/or supervision in higher education
- A strong commitment to enhancing the student learning experience
- Professionalism and integrity in working with colleagues and students
