About the Fellowship
We are pleased to invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, one of the world’s leading centres for children’s healthcare.
This fellowship is designed for experienced orthopaedic surgeons seeking advanced sub-specialty training in elective paediatric orthopaedics, with a particular focus on rare conditions, complex deformities, and highly specialised surgical procedures.
The role offers a rich and structured learning experience across all major areas of paediatric orthopaedics. Through rotations with senior consultants, fellows are exposed to a wide range of sub-specialist practices while maintaining continuity of care and professional development.

- 2 operating theatre days

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Clinical Fellow, you will:
- Work primarily with one or two named consultant surgeons
- Participate in elective theatre lists and outpatient clinics
- Support multidisciplinary team (MDT) working across the service
- Contribute to teaching, audit, and research activity
- Maintain high standards of clinical governance and patient safety
- Participate in a non-resident on-call rota, compliant with EWTD and New Deal requirements

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise by start date
- FRCS (Orth) or equivalent
- MRCP / MRCPCH or equivalent
- Higher degree (e.g. MSc, MPhil, or related discipline)
- IELTS (if required for sponsorship via the Royal Colleges)
Essential Experience & Knowledge
- Post-FRCS experience with 6–12 months in Paediatric Orthopaedics
- Broad understanding of general paediatric orthopaedic conditions
- Experience in teaching and presenting
- Knowledge of clinical governance principles
- Insight into personal limitations and appropriate escalation
- Understanding of paediatric surgical pathways
Desirable
- Experience in related paediatric sub-specialties
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Active involvement in audit or research projects
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Competence in general orthopaedic management
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Confidence teaching junior doctors, nurses, and allied professionals
- Strong IT and clinical documentation skills
