Job Description

A unique opportunity – plus a £30,000 Golden Hello

We are excited to invite applications from an ambitious and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability to join the newly formed Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust. To support your move and recognise the value you bring, this role includes a £30,000 Golden Hello, subject to qualifying conditions.

This is a rare opportunity to play a key leadership role in shaping services within a newly integrated NHS Trust, while enjoying flexible working and the lifestyle benefits of the Isle of Wight.

About the role

You will provide consultant leadership and clinical oversight to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight, working within a highly supportive, multi-disciplinary environment.

The service is well established and continues to grow. Alongside psychiatry, the team includes psychology, learning disability nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and an Art Therapy role launching soon. We also work closely with Experts by Experience, carers, and partner organisations across health and social care.

Planned investment will soon support the development of an Intensive Support Team, strengthening our ability to provide timely, preventative, and person-centred care.

What you’ll be responsible for

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:

  • Provide clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and professional accountability
  • Promote a culture of openness, collaboration, and patient safety, encouraging shared decision-making and reflective practice
  • Ensure high-quality, coordinated care, particularly where care is shared across teams and services
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues across health, social care, and partner organisations
  • Support robust risk assessment and risk management systems within the service
  • Enable all team members to contribute meaningfully to discussions and service development
  • Actively contribute to service improvement and the future direction of learning disability services on the Isle of Wight
