About the role
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking an experienced and motivated General Practitioner to join us as a Clinical Senior General Practice Teaching Fellow. This role is ideal for a practising GP who is passionate about education and keen to develop a portfolio career with a significant academic and teaching focus.
You will play a key role in shaping the general practice and generalist teaching delivered to undergraduate medical students. Your contribution will span core clinical teaching, communication skills, and specialty general practice education, helping students develop the knowledge, confidence, and professional values required for modern medical practice.
Working collaboratively within an established GP education team, you will also support the coordination, quality assurance, and ongoing development of GP placements across a diverse network of teaching practices.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Design and deliver high-quality undergraduate teaching in:
- Core clinical skills
- Communication skills
- General practice and integrated care
- Contribute to the recruitment, support, and quality monitoring of GP teaching practices and GP tutors
- Help develop innovative learning resources and assessment materials that reflect contemporary general practice and patient-centred care
- Support curriculum development to ensure teaching remains current, relevant, and aligned with healthcare needs
- Work collaboratively with academic, clinical, and professional colleagues across BSMS
- Undertake occasional travel to GP practices as part of placement support activities
About you
This post would suit a practising GP who is enthusiastic about medical education and keen to deepen their involvement in teaching and curriculum development.
You will bring:
- Current or recent clinical experience in general practice
- A strong interest in undergraduate medical education
- The ability to manage your own workload effectively while supporting colleagues when needed
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
- A collaborative and flexible approach to working within a multidisciplinary academic team
- While the role is initially offered at 0.4 FTE, there may be scope for flexibility in the future, depending on service needs and mutual agreement.
