Job Description

About the Role

Do you want to make a real difference to the emotional wellbeing of children and young people—before difficulties escalate?

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a committed Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to join our Wellbeing in Mind Team supporting schools and colleges across the Selby area. This role sits at the heart of the national drive to improve early access to mental health support for children and young people, with a strong focus on prevention, early intervention, and partnership working.

Wellbeing in Mind Teams (Mental Health Support Teams) are embedded directly within education settings, allowing practitioners to work closely with pupils, families, and school staff to build emotionally healthy environments.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an EMHP, your role will be varied, rewarding, and rooted in collaboration. Your time will be balanced across three core areas:

1. Whole-School Wellbeing (approx. one-third of role)

  • Supporting schools and colleges to develop and embed whole-school approaches to mental health
  • Contributing to wellbeing policies, resources, campaigns, assemblies, staff training, and PSHE delivery

2. Advice and Consultation (approx. one-third of role)

  • Offering timely advice and consultation to education staff
  • Helping teachers and support staff build confidence in identifying and responding to emotional wellbeing needs
  • Working both formally and informally with school staff

3. Direct Work with Young People (approx. one-third of role)

  • Delivering low-intensity, evidence-based CBT-informed interventions
  • Completing assessments and supporting young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties
  • Managing a caseload and contributing to positive outcomes within education settings
  • Due to the community-based nature of the role, you will need to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle. Reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010.

You will be enthusiastic, compassionate, and motivated by early intervention work with children and young people.
