About the Role
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading is pleased to invite applications for a Lecturer in Psychology (Teaching & Research) to join our vibrant, collaborative, and research-active academic community.
This role offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of psychologists through high-quality teaching, supervision, and research leadership, while contributing to the School’s growing national and international research profile. Following a strong performance in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) — where the School rose ten places — we are looking for colleagues who are eager to build impactful research programmes and secure external funding.
The post is available on a permanent basis and can be offered as full-time or part-time to support flexible working needs.
Teaching and Research Focus
We welcome applications from candidates whose expertise aligns with, or complements, our strengths in one or more of the following areas:
- Health Psychology
- Developmental Psychopathology
- Environmental Sustainability
- Forensic and Criminal Psychology
We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with interdisciplinary research interests, including those using TMS and MRI methodologies within the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN), or those working with our specialist clinical facilities such as the Anxiety and Depression in Young People (AnDY) Research Clinic.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and inclusive teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate psychology programmes
- Supervise student research projects to a high academic standard
- Develop and sustain a high-quality, independent research agenda
- Publish research outputs appropriate to career stage
- Actively pursue external research funding
- Contribute to the academic citizenship of the School and wider University
About You
You will be a motivated academic with a strong commitment to both teaching excellence and research innovation. You should be able to demonstrate:
- A PhD in Psychology or a closely related discipline
- Subject expertise in at least one relevant specialism
- A developing or established record of high-quality publications
- Clear potential to attract external research funding
- Experience of teaching and/or supervising students at university level
- A genuine commitment to student support, inclusion, and academic integrity
- Professionalism in collaboration with colleagues and students
