About the Department

The Department of Economics is part of the School of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (SPPE) and is renowned for its interdisciplinary research and collaboration across the University of Reading. Our academics actively contribute to applied and theoretical economics research, and we are particularly proud of our Climate and Environmental Economics Research Cluster, which focuses on addressing some of the most urgent global and policy challenges.

We are seeking to appoint two Lecturers (Assistant Professors) who are passionate about teaching, have a developing record of impactful research, and want to be part of a vibrant, supportive academic community.

The role

As a Lecturer in Economics, you will:

  • Deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a range of economic subjects
  • Supervise student research projects and dissertations
  • Develop an independent, high-quality research programme with publications in leading journals
  • Contribute to the Department’s research clusters, particularly in areas such as Climate and Environmental Economics
  • Support academic administration, student recruitment, and the wider research environment of the School
  • Applicants are encouraged to bring expertise across any field of economics while demonstrating an interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

What we’re looking for

Successful candidates will normally have:

  • A PhD in Economics or a related discipline
  • Publications in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals and a clear pipeline for continued research output
  • Evidence of excellence in university-level teaching across a variety of topics
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team while developing an independent research profile
  • Experience contributing to interdisciplinary research projects or policy-relevant research is highly desirable.
  • Contract and working arrangements
  • Permanent, full-time appointment (1.0 FTE)
  • Based primarily at Whiteknights Campus, Reading
  • Some on-campus presence will be expected during the week
  • Skilled Worker visa sponsorship may be possible; applicants should verify eligibility via UK Visas and Immigration guidance
  • Flexible, part-time, or job-share working arrangements will be considered where appropriate.
