About the School

The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading is a friendly, ambitious and research-active academic community. We are proud of our strong teaching culture and of our recent success in the Research Excellence Framework (REF), where the School moved up ten places in the national rankings.

We are now looking to appoint Lecturers in Psychology (Teaching & Research) who are passionate about both high-quality teaching and impactful research, and who are keen to grow their academic career within a supportive environment.

The role

As a Lecturer in Psychology, you will contribute across teaching, research and academic citizenship. You will deliver engaging teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervise student research projects, and play an active role in strengthening the School’s research profile.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants whose expertise complements our existing strengths in one or more of the following areas:

  • Health Psychology
  • Developmental Psychopathology
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Forensic or Criminal Psychology

We also welcome applications from candidates with interdisciplinary research programmes, including those using TMS or MRI methods, or whose work aligns with the facilities and expertise of:

  • The Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN)
  • The Anxiety and Depression in Young People (AnDY) Research Clinic

Successful candidates will be supported to develop a research group, publish high-quality outputs, and pursue external research funding.

What you’ll bring

You will normally have:

  • A PhD in Psychology or a closely related discipline
  • Clear subject expertise aligned to at least one of our priority research areas
  • A developing or established publication record appropriate to career stage
  • Demonstrable potential to secure external research funding
  • Experience of teaching and/or supervision at university level
  • A strong commitment to an excellent and inclusive student experience
  • A professional, collegial approach to working with students and colleagues
  • Contract and working arrangements
  • Permanent appointment
  • Available full-time or part-time (0.5–1.0 FTE)
  • Based at Whiteknights Campus, Reading
  • Flexible and job-share working arrangements will be considered
