About Eden Ward

Eden Ward is a dedicated gynaecology and urology unit within the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. We specialise in caring for women undergoing elective gynaecological procedures, providing comprehensive post-operative support for day-case and short-stay patients. Our 20-bed inpatient area also accommodates those recovering from more complex surgeries, gynaecological emergencies, and a number of medical cases.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a busy environment, enjoys building strong relationships with patients and colleagues, and is committed to delivering outstanding care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, individualised nursing care that meets the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of our patients.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care programmes, while guiding and supporting junior staff and healthcare assistants in the process.
  • Maintain a warm, safe, and welcoming ward environment where patients feel supported and valued.
  • Serve as a strong advocate for patients, their families, and carers offering clear information, emotional support, and signposting to appropriate services.
  • Begin discharge planning from the moment of admission, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, other hospital departments, and community services to ensure smooth transitions home.
  • Continuously develop your clinical skills and knowledge to provide holistic, evidence-based care, including taking on expanded roles after suitable training.
  • Administer medications safely and competently in line with Trust policies.
  • Ensure all practice is grounded in the latest evidence or recognised best-practice guidelines.
  • Contribute to the education and support of patients and families throughout their stay.
  • Use the Patient Administration System (PAS) accurately and in accordance with Trust procedures.
