Make a Lasting Difference in Mental Health Rehabilitation
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to join Willow Ward and the Open Mental Health Rehabilitation Team. This substantive post sits within a forward-thinking service that seamlessly connects inpatient care with community-based rehabilitation, delivered in close partnership with voluntary and community organisations.
Based at Broadway Park in Bridgwater, this role is ideal for a doctor who values continuity of care, collaborative working, and recovery-focused practice. You will be supported to develop your clinical skills, contribute to service innovation, and play an active role in shaping rehabilitation pathways across Somerset.
The Role at a Glance
You will provide high-quality medical care across both inpatient and community settings, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs on their recovery journey.
Your work will include:
- Conducting ward rounds and regular patient reviews
- Managing psychotropic medication and physical health needs
- Completing Mental Health Tribunal reports and community assessments
- Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver holistic care
- Supporting continuity between inpatient rehabilitation and community services
- The post includes a balanced job plan, with 9 programmed activities for direct clinical care and 1 programmed activity for supporting professional activities, allowing time for CPD, audit, teaching and service development.
What You’ll Contribute
In addition to day-to-day clinical care, you will:
- Work alongside consultants, clinical leaders and service managers to develop rehabilitation services
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activity
- Support teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students
- Engage with Trust-wide academic programmes, CPD sessions and appraisal processes
- Contribute to strategic planning and service redesign where appropriate
- This is a varied role offering both clinical depth and the opportunity to influence how rehabilitation services evolve.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Recognised medical degree
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
Desirable
- Section 12 approval
- MRCPsych (completed or in progress)
Experience

- Minimum 4 years’ postgraduate experience across a range of mental health settings
