Job Description
About the Opportunity
Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are entering an exciting new phase of development with the introduction of the CHARM Service (Children’s Health and Resilience in Mental Wellbeing).
CHARM is a newly designed early intervention service, supporting children and young people with mild to moderate emotional and mental health needs, focusing on prevention, resilience, and timely access to evidence-based care.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Practitioner to play a key role in delivering high-quality, compassionate mental health support to children, young people (aged 0–18), and their families. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled practitioner who enjoys working collaboratively, values early intervention, and is confident managing complexity.
Your Role
As a Senior Mental Health Practitioner within CHARM, you will hold a defined and complex caseload, providing assessment, formulation, and short-term, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties.
You will work closely with families, schools, health colleagues, and partner agencies, ensuring care is accessible, responsive, and centred around the child or young person’s needs.
In addition to clinical delivery, you will act as a senior team member, offering supervision, contributing to quality improvement, and supporting service development alongside the Team Lead and Team Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a complex caseload, including specialist mental health assessments, care planning, and outcome evaluation
- Deliver short-term, evidence-based psychosocial and CBT-informed interventions tailored to children, young people, and families
- Design, plan, and facilitate group-based interventions to promote resilience and emotional wellbeing
- Undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop robust risk management plans
- Promote positive and proportionate risk-taking to support independence and quality of life
- Work collaboratively with families, education settings, and multi-agency partners
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and contribute to effective communication across services
- Support and supervise colleagues, as agreed, fostering reflective and safe practice
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit activity, and service quality standards
