Job Description

Join Our Passionate Midwifery Team at Worthing

We are thrilled to invite dedicated midwives to become part of our warm and driven team at UHSussex. Here, our focus is on delivering compassionate, all-around care that truly makes a difference in the lives of families.

Right now, we’re in an inspiring phase of growth and enhancement, full of opportunities to innovate and improve how we support expectant parents and newborns.

If you are a proactive midwife with strong people skills, a knack for clear communication, and a real enthusiasm for your work, we’d love to have you on board. Whether you’re eager to shape the future of maternity services or tackle new challenges head-on, this could be the perfect fit—go ahead and apply now!

Role Details and Requirements

These positions involve flexible shifts, including nights and on-call responsibilities. We’ll make sure you feel confident from day one with a thorough onboarding program and ongoing guidance tailored to your needs.

For more insights into our maternity opportunities, check out our website: www.uhsussex.nhs.uk/maternity-jobs.

This opportunity qualifies for UK visa sponsorship via the Skilled Worker route from UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI). That said, we’ll only sponsor if you align with their guidelines, like meeting the £25,000 salary threshold and any job-specific standards.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an independent expert, you’ll handle assessments, diagnoses, and hands-on midwifery support throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period—often without needing to involve doctors right away.

When specialist input is required, you’ll collaborate seamlessly with other healthcare pros to maintain top-notch safety and care.

In your daily work, you’ll:

  • Fully own the process of evaluating, organizing, delivering, and reviewing family-centered care based on the latest evidence.
  • Guide parents through choices like birth preferences, pain management options, feeding methods, newborn routines, returning to daily life, and family planning helping them feel empowered and informed.
  • Regularly check in on care plans, tweak them as needed, and offer expert guidance to keep everything on track.
  • Champion your clients’ voices, encouraging them to take charge of their health and wellness.
  • Always prioritize respect for personal privacy, dignity, and getting clear consent at every step of the journey.
  • Know when to loop in specialists, such as senior midwives, obstetricians, physiotherapists, or pediatricians, if something falls outside your expertise or needs extra attention.
