About the Opportunity
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is inviting applications from an experienced and motivated General Practitioner to join its teaching faculty as a Clinical Senior General Practice Teaching Fellow. This part-time role offers an excellent opportunity to combine clinical practice with a meaningful academic and educational portfolio.
The post holder will play a key role in shaping how undergraduate medical students understand general practice, whole-person medicine, and integrated clinical care. You will contribute to both the delivery and ongoing development of teaching across the medical curriculum, ensuring learning remains relevant, innovative, and grounded in real-world clinical practice.
This position is well suited to a practising GP seeking to broaden their professional scope while remaining closely connected to patient-centred education.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development
- Design and deliver high-quality undergraduate teaching in general practice, clinical skills, and medical communication.
- Contribute specialty-specific general practice content across the curriculum, ensuring alignment with current NHS priorities and standards.
- Develop and review innovative learning resources and assessments, supporting integrated and generalist approaches to care.
- National standards for medical education can be found via the General Medical Council
Placement Development and Quality Assurance
- Support the recruitment, development, and ongoing quality assurance of general practice placements.
- Work with a network of GP teachers to maintain high educational standards and positive student experiences.
- Contribute to monitoring and improving placement quality in line with national expectations for undergraduate medical training.
Collaboration and Professional Contribution
- Work closely with fellow educators, professional services staff, and NHS partners across the South-East.
- Manage your own workload effectively while contributing to team objectives and supporting colleagues when required.
- Undertake limited travel to GP practices as part of placement support and quality activity.
About You
You will be a practising General Practitioner with a strong interest in medical education and a desire to develop a portfolio career that includes a substantial teaching component.
