Lead compassionate inpatient care for older adults
This is a senior clinical opportunity for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Persons Mental Health to provide leadership, continuity of care, and expert clinical input within a well-established inpatient service at Gosport War Memorial Hospital.
You will take Responsible Clinician (RC) responsibility for patients on Rose Ward and contribute clinical oversight across the wider inpatient wards. Alongside delivering high-quality care, you will play a key role in shaping team culture, governance, and service development.
This role is ideal for a consultant who values collaborative working, professional integrity, and patient-centred care for older adults with complex mental health needs.
The Inpatient Service
You will be part of the Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) inpatient team, working across two inpatient areas at Gosport War Memorial Hospital.
The medical team includes:
- A part-time Consultant Psychiatrist
- Three Resident Doctors
- One Middle Grade Doctor
You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe, coordinated, and compassionate care, while providing clear leadership and clinical direction across the wards.
Your Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
- Provide direct clinical care and RC responsibility for inpatients
- Offer senior clinical leadership across Rose Ward and supporting wards
- Ensure clear understanding of professional roles, responsibilities, and accountability within the team
- Promote patient safety through robust risk assessment, care coordination, and clinical governance
- Foster open communication, reflective practice, and shared decision-making
- Support service development, teaching, and training activities
- Contribute to wider Trust initiatives, academic meetings, and quality improvement work
- You will work closely with fellow senior clinicians to ensure care is well coordinated, evidence-based, and aligned with best practice.

Essential Qualifications & Registration
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- CCT in Older Persons Psychiatry, or within 12 months of CCT at interview
- Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
- Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
