This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and motivated Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability to play a leading role within the newly formed Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust.

You will provide senior clinical leadership to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight, working within a well-established multidisciplinary team while helping shape the next phase of service development, including the planned introduction of an Intensive Support Team.

The Service & Team

The Community Adult Learning Disability Team is a fully integrated multidisciplinary service, bringing together expertise from:

  • Psychiatry
  • Psychology
  • Learning Disability Nursing
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Art Therapy (new role being introduced)

The team works closely with experts by experience, carers, and partner services across both the Isle of Wight and the wider Hampshire system. The culture is supportive, collaborative, and focused on delivering person-centred care.

Planned investment in an Intensive Support function will further strengthen crisis prevention and community-based care for people with learning disabilities.

Your Role & Clinical Leadership

As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide senior clinical oversight and leadership, ensuring high-quality, safe, and coordinated care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing consultant leadership within the multidisciplinary team
  • Supporting clarity around professional roles, responsibilities, and accountability
  • Promoting a culture of openness, reflective practice, and shared decision-making
  • Ensuring effective communication within the team and with external partners
  • Coordinating patient care across services and pathways
  • Leading on clinical risk management and patient safety systems
  • Supporting service development and quality improvement initiatives

You will work closely with other senior clinicians to ensure care is well-governed, collaborative, and responsive to patient and community needs.

Contract & Pay

  • Contract: Permanent
  • Grade: Consultant (Hospital Medical & Dental pay scale)
  • Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum
  • Working pattern: Part-time, flexible working supported

Essential Qualifications & Registration

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
  • CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry, or within 12 months of CCT at interview
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act
