Principal Geotechnical Consultant Engineer(UK Visa Sponsorship)

Job Description

About the Opportunity

An established, independent engineering and consultancy group is expanding its geotechnical capability in Leeds and is seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Geotechnical Consultant Engineer to play a key role in its continued growth.

With more than five decades of delivery across infrastructure, energy, environment, and urban development, the organisation supports public and private sector clients from early concept through construction and into operation. Projects span transport, water, buildings, renewables, and rural development—both across the UK and internationally.

This role offers a rare opportunity to combine hands-on technical leadership with the long-term prospect of building and leading a team within a growing regional office.

Hybrid working is supported, with up to two days per week working from home.

The Role

You will take a senior technical position within the geotechnical team, contributing to the design, delivery, and review of complex ground engineering solutions. While UK-based projects will form a core part of your workload, you will also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the organisation’s global network.

The position suits a technically strong geotechnical professional who enjoys problem-solving, mentoring others, and progressively stepping into a leadership role.

Offshore experience is beneficial but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver geotechnical design packages from feasibility through to construction
  • Provide technical input on foundations and complex ground conditions
  • Review designs, reports, and calculations produced by junior staff
  • Support project delivery across infrastructure, transport, energy, and offshore sectors
  • Contribute to the development of a growing geotechnical team in Leeds
  • Work collaboratively with national and international project teams

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Approximately 5–10 years’ relevant industry experience (indicative of seniority)
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
  • Strong ability to work independently while supporting team development
  • Proven technical expertise in geotechnical and foundation design

Desirable Technical Background

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Pile design in chalk and glacial till
  • Offshore geotechnical design, particularly wind farms or port infrastructure
  • Railway infrastructure, including depots and stations
  • Earthworks: embankments and cuttings
  • Ground improvement and ground treatment solutions

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: £45,000 – £60,000, depending on experience
  • Performance-related bonus scheme (individual and company performance)
  • Employer pension contributions
  • Private medical insurance
  • Gym membership
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Visa sponsorship available, subject to eligibility
