About the Role
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with a specialist interest in Breast Cancer to join the Sussex Cancer Centre team.
This post is based primarily at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with clinical sessions delivered across the wider Sussex network. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred oncology care to a diverse population, while contributing to service development, education, and research within a large and progressive cancer service.
The Sussex Cancer Centre & Oncology Service
The Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service brings together clinical and medical oncologists employed by UHSussex to provide non-surgical cancer treatments across five hospital sites. This collaborative model ensures consistent, high-quality oncology care for patients throughout Sussex.
You will join a team of approximately 30 consultant clinical and medical oncologists, working closely with multi-professional colleagues including specialist nurses, pharmacists, radiographers, cancer support workers, and allied health professionals.
Clinical Responsibilities
Your role will include a broad and rewarding mix of clinical, educational, and leadership duties, including:
- Delivery of outpatient oncology clinics for breast cancer patients
- Participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
- Prescribing and clinical oversight of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT)
- Radiotherapy planning and review
- Inpatient ward reviews
- Supervision and support of non-medical practitioners
- Contribution to clinical governance, audit, and service improvement
- Participation in the consultant on-call rota at the Royal Sussex County Hospital
- Currently 1:17, moving to 1:9
- Active involvement in education and training for medical students, junior doctors, nurses, and AHPs
- Clinical practice aligns with national cancer standards and NICE
Teaching, Education & Research
