About the Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for a registered dietitian who is keen to grow professionally within a large, friendly, and well-established hospital dietetic service. Based at Southend Hospital, you will become part of a diverse clinical environment, delivering evidence-based nutritional care to patients across a range of specialities.
You will work alongside experienced Band 7 Specialist Dietitians, gaining exposure to renal, oncology, stroke, and gastroenterology services. The role offers a balance of autonomy and support, making it ideal for a Band 6 dietitian looking to strengthen clinical expertise while developing leadership and supervisory skills.
The Dietetic Service
You will join a multidisciplinary department consisting of:
- 20 Dietitians
- 1 Dietetic Assistant
- 2 Dietetic Secretaries
The team works collaboratively with consultants, specialist nurses, speech and language therapists, and other allied health professionals to ensure patients receive high-quality, patient-centred nutritional care throughout their hospital journey and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
As a Band 6 Dietitian, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a defined inpatient and outpatient caseload, including patients with complex medical and nutritional needs
- Completing comprehensive dietetic assessments that consider physical, psychological, and social factors
- Designing, implementing, and reviewing individualised nutrition care plans
- Providing dietetic advice following discharge, including follow-up via telephone clinics and face-to-face consultations
- Actively participating in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing specialist dietetic input
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and legally compliant patient records
- Offering senior support and supervision to junior staff and students where appropriate
- Supporting service development and contributing to quality improvement initiatives
- All practice should align with national guidance, including evidence-based standards such as those published by NICE

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- BSc (or equivalent) in Nutrition and Dietetics
Desirable Qualifications
- Evidence of relevant postgraduate training or education
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated post-registration dietetic experience
- Working knowledge relevant to acute or specialist clinical areas
- Evidence of continuing profesonal development (CPD) in line with HCPC requirements
Desirable
- Experience with parenteral nutrition
- Experience supporting patients with home enteral feeding
