Job Description
About the role
Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a motivated and proactive Research Sponsorship Facilitator to join our established Research & Development team. This role is central to supporting and strengthening our Trust-sponsored (“home-grown”) research portfolio, ensuring studies are developed, governed, and delivered in line with national regulatory and ethical standards.
You will play a key role in guiding researchers across the Trust—from early project ideas through to study close-out—helping translate innovative thinking into high-quality research that improves patient care and service delivery.
This post would suit someone with a strong background in clinical research administration, governance, and coordination, who enjoys working collaboratively while being confident managing complex processes independently.
What you’ll be responsible for
In this role, you will:
- Develop and maintain a central database of all RCHT-sponsored studies, enabling effective oversight and reporting
- Act as a first point of contact for Trust researchers, providing practical guidance on research sponsorship requirements
- Support investigators in shaping research proposals, including signposting to funding bodies, academic partners, and specialist advice
Advise on and support completion of key regulatory documentation such as:
- IRAS applications
- Sponsor approvals
- Research registrations
- Annual and end-of-study reports
- Prepare and manage sponsor documentation, including SoECAT submissions, ensuring appropriate authorisation
- Support the processing and classification of substantial and non-substantial amendments, working closely with study set-up and senior governance colleagues
- Liaise with Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) groups to ensure meaningful community input into Trust-sponsored research
- Represent the Trust as sponsor in meetings with internal teams, external organisations, and partner NHS trusts
- Assist the Research Governance Manager in coordinating the Sponsor Oversight Committee, including status updates on live and proposed studies
- Maintain sponsor communication systems, ensuring timely responses, document control, and escalation of safety or governance issues
- Ensure Trial Master Files meet regulatory standards and demonstrate good version control
- Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and work instructions for sponsor processes
- Deliver or support training sessions on research governance and sponsorship requirements
- Manage your own workload effectively while meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders
- Knowledge and regulatory framework
