About the Role

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Assistant Professor in English Language and Linguistics to contribute to our undergraduate teaching provision on a part-time, fixed-term basis.

In this role, you will convene, teach, and assess modules within the English Language and Linguistics programmes. Teaching will take place primarily through in-person lectures, seminars, and workshops, alongside the provision of regular student support hours during term time.

You will work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues to deliver a high-quality learning experience and to support students in developing their academic and analytical skills. The role requires specialist expertise in phonetics and phonology, with the flexibility and interest to teach across other areas of linguistics. Additional expertise in morphology and syntax or psycholinguistics would be particularly welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Convene, teach, and assess undergraduate modules in English Language and Linguistics
  • Deliver engaging, in-person teaching sessions, including lectures and seminars
  • Provide scheduled student support hours during term time
  • Contribute to curriculum delivery in phonetics and phonology, with input into other linguistic areas as required
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support programme delivery and student success
  • Uphold inclusive and effective teaching and assessment practices

About You

You will hold a PhD in Linguistics and have experience teaching at undergraduate level within the UK higher education system. A recognised qualification in higher education teaching is desirable.
