Role Overview
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior IT Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex IT programmes that directly support patient care and organisational performance.
Reporting to the Head of IT, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a portfolio of IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards. You will also provide professional leadership to a team of Project Managers, offering guidance, direction, and assurance across the full project lifecycle.
This role is ideal for a confident senior project professional who enjoys managing complexity, leading people, and working at pace within a large and dynamic organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, governance, and delivery of IT projects in line with organisational priorities
- Ensure project milestones, timelines, costs, and benefits are effectively managed and controlled
- Act as project lead for high-value, high-risk, or capital-funded IT programmes
- Provide expert project management advice using PRINCE2 methodology

- Maintain oversight of risks, issues, dependencies, and financial performance across all projects
- Produce clear, accurate, and timely progress reports for senior stakeholders

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification
- PRINCE2 Foundation (or equivalent recognised project management methodology)
Desirable
- PRINCE2 Practitioner or MSP qualification
- ITIL certification

Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience managing IT projects within large, complex organisations
- Proven delivery across the full project lifecycle
- Strong background in IT project planning and governance
- Experience working in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environments
- Experience managing and supporting other project professionals
Desirable
- Experience delivering NHS clinical or corporate systems
- Understanding of healthcare IT environments
- Experience leading Office 365 implementations
- Experience managing server migrations or infrastructure programmes
Knowledge & Expertise
