This role offers a rare opportunity to work on applied AI within the NHS ecosystem while contributing to translational research with clear patient benefit.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead the end-to-end development of the RMD-Health software prototype in line with project goals
  • Design and integrate agentic AI components to enable autonomous data ingestion, quality checks, and decision support
  • Ensure interoperability with NHS Electronic Health Record systems, using standards such as FHIR
  • Work closely with Machine Learning Engineers to integrate ML models, explainable AI features, and decision-support logic
  • Build and maintain secure data pipelines for anonymised NHS referral and patient data
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, NHS Information Governance standards, and relevant medical device regulations
  • Support preparation of technical documentation for UKCA / CE marking as AI as a Medical Device (AIaMD)

  • Contribute to academic publications, dissemination activities, and project meetings
  • Deliver high-quality outputs to agreed timelines as part of a multidisciplinary team

Skills & Experience

You will be well suited to this role if you bring:

  • Strong experience in software engineering, ideally in AI-enabled or data-driven systems
  • Familiarity with machine learning integration, decision-support tools, or agentic AI architectures
  • Experience working with health data, secure pipelines, or regulated environments (desirable)
  • An understanding of healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR (advantageous)
  • The ability to collaborate effectively across technical, clinical, and non-technical teams
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset and the ability to work to tight deadlines
