Role Overview

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is inviting applications from motivated and compassionate Staff Nurses to join the Cardiology Ward at Prince Charles Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care to patients with a range of acute and rehabilitative cardiac conditions.

The post is based on a 24-bed cardiology ward, with opportunities to gain experience across wider cardiology services, including the Cardiac Care Unit and Cardiac Day Care Unit. Nurses in this role are supported to continuously develop their clinical skills while making a meaningful difference to patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Staff Nurse in Cardiology, you will:

  • Deliver holistic, patient-centred nursing care to individuals with acute and chronic cardiac conditions
  • Monitor, assess, and respond promptly to changes in patients’ clinical conditions
  • Support patients transitioning from higher-dependency cardiac care into recovery and rehabilitation
  • Work collaboratively with medical staff and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to a safe, respectful, and high-quality ward environment
  • Participate in a rotational shift pattern, including day and night duties (excluding Day Care Unit)

Welsh Language Requirement

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. Welsh language skills are not essential, but candidates with Speaking and Listening skills at Level 3 (CEFR B2) or above will be considered favourably during shortlisting.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience working in a hospital ward environment

Desirable

  • Experience acting in charge of a ward or department

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Desirable

  • Welsh speaking and listening skills at Level 3 or above

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current UK NMC registration

Desirable

  • IV device management
  • IV additives
  • Immediate Life Support (ILS)

Shift Patterns

The Health Board operates a range of shift systems. The most common is a 12.5-hour shift, including either one or two unpaid breaks. Shift arrangements are reviewed periodically, with a commitment to staff consultation and fair workforce planning.
