Role Overview

TfL is seeking an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to strengthen our Systems Performance & Integration team. In this role, you will help shape the development, installation, and operation of TfL assets and infrastructure, ensuring EMC compliance across multiple transport modes.

You will:

Provide technical guidance on EMC matters and challenge designs to ensure compliance with UK and international standards (BS EN Standards)

  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to manage EMC risks effectively
  • Support EMC mitigation strategies across all project stages: feasibility, concept design, installation, commissioning, and operation
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and cost-effective solutions
  • Produce EMC assurance documentation, such as risk analyses, technical files, and design review reports
  • You will also represent TfL externally, communicating complex technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders while demonstrating a commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
  • Proven EMC experience in a professional setting
  • Knowledge of UK EMC legislation, standards, and guidelines
  • Experience developing EMC scope, management plans, and technical documentation
  • Ability to provide guidance and check designs across multiple projects

Desirable:

  • EMC modelling and simulation experience
  • Practical experience with EMC testing and relevant equipment
  • Familiarity with large-scale infrastructure projects
