Job Description

About the Role

NELFT is looking for a motivated and analytical professional to join our finance team as a Finance Business Partner. This post is offered as a Band 4 or Band 5, with flexibility to support a developmental pathway for candidates who are building their finance careers.

This is a full-time, hybrid role, primarily based at our Rainham office, with occasional travel across NELFT localities. The position offers exposure to a wide range of services and provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen management accounting and business-partnering skills within a large NHS organisation.

Who We’re Looking For

This role would suit someone who is AAT qualified or actively studying, with a solid understanding of financial principles and confidence using IT systems—particularly Microsoft Excel. Experience within the NHS or business-partnering roles is welcomed but not essential, as structured training and ongoing support will be provided.

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to manage competing priorities, and confident in communicating financial information to both finance and non-finance colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

As a Finance Business Partner, you will:

  • Act as the primary finance contact for an allocated directorate, developing a strong understanding of its services and financial drivers
  • Prepare and deliver monthly budget reports, variance analysis, and forecasts within agreed deadlines
  • Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger through the preparation and review of journals and virements
  • Support budget holders in managing their resources effectively and within financial constraints
  • Assist with costing exercises for proposed service developments and changes
  • Produce staffing reports, reconcile pay budgets, and support workforce planning activity
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in financial reporting and processes

  • Probationary Period
This post is subject to a probationary period. Internal candidates are exempt unless currently within probation or employed as bank staff.
  • High Cost Area Supplement (Outer London)
This role attracts a 15% High Cost Area Supplement, with a minimum of £4,714 and a maximum of £5,941 per annum (pro rata for part-time staff).
