Job Description
A Veterinary Role Built Around You
This opportunity is designed for a veterinary surgeon who wants their career to feel intentional, supported, and genuinely fulfilling. Whether your focus is clinical progression, leadership development, certificate study, or shaping services around a specialist interest, Hemsworth Vets for Pets offers the flexibility and backing to help you achieve it.
This is not a rigid, one-track role. It is a chance to join a practice where your voice matters, your ideas are taken seriously, and your professional growth is actively encouraged.
About the Practice
Hemsworth Vets for Pets is a distinctive standalone practice set within a thoughtfully converted former fire station. The building offers generous space, natural light, and a modern clinical layout, creating an environment that supports both excellent patient care and enjoyable day-to-day working.
The practice is well equipped with contemporary diagnostic and treatment facilities, enabling vets to work up cases in-house wherever possible. A loyal and growing client base underpins the practice, and there is clear scope for future development and service expansion.
You will be joining a close-knit, collaborative team with a shared commitment to high clinical standards, teamwork, and compassionate care for pets and their owners.
Location and Lifestyle
Hemsworth is a lively market town with strong transport connections across South and West Yorkshire. The practice is within easy walking distance of the local bus station, with regular routes to Barnsley, Wakefield, Pontefract, and Doncaster. Road links via the M1 and A1 make Leeds, Sheffield, and Manchester readily accessible.
Outside of work, the area offers a balance of countryside and culture. From local green spaces and Hemsworth Water Park to historic attractions such as Nostell Priory, there are plenty of options for relaxation, family time, and outdoor activity.
The Role
This position is intentionally flexible and can be shaped around your circumstances:
- Full-time (40 hours per week)
- Part-time (minimum 24 hours per week)
- Flexible scheduling to support work–life balance
Weekend duties are shared equitably across the team, and there are no out-of-hours requirements, allowing for predictable time off and sustainable working patterns.
We are looking for a veterinary surgeon who:
- Has experience in small animal general practice
- Is comfortable with sole charge when required
- Communicates clearly and empathetically with clients and colleagues
- Enjoys working collaboratively and takes pride in delivering high standards of care
Development and Career Progression
Your professional development will be actively supported. Whether you are early in your career or looking to take the next step, the practice will work with you to shape a personalised development plan. This may include:
- Generous CPD funding
- Financial support for certificates or postgraduate qualifications
- Opportunities to contribute ideas for service development or clinical improvement
- Clear pathways for progression within a national veterinary network
Salary and Benefits
In addition to a salary of up to £80,000, the package includes:
- £5,000 welcome or relocation bonus
- Paid professional memberships (RCVS, VDS, plus one additional membership)
- Pension scheme and private healthcare
- Exclusive lifestyle and retail discounts, including significant savings with Pets at Home and The Groom Room
- Relocation packages for UK and international candidates
- Visa sponsorship through an A-rated sponsor
- Practice Ownership Opportunities
Alongside employed roles, there is also an opportunity for experienced Vets, RVNs, and Practice Managers to explore practice ownership through a supported partnership model. This pathway offers:
- Immediate brand recognition
- Access to a large established client base
- A salary from day one
- Membership of a wide practice owner community with professional and personal support
- This option is ideal for those with the ambition to lead a business while maintaining clinical involvement.
