About the Role

As the University of Reading prepares to celebrate its centenary in 2026, we are seeking a Fundraising Officer to provide maternity cover during this landmark period. This role sits at the heart of our philanthropic activity and offers a unique opportunity to help shape campaigns that directly support students, research, and community initiatives.

You will join a welcoming and committed fundraising team, working on a diverse portfolio of activities designed to inspire alumni and supporters to give. Your work will have visible, meaningful impact during one of the most important years in the University’s history.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will plan and deliver a wide range of fundraising initiatives, including:

  • Coordinating multi-channel fundraising campaigns such as international giving days, telephone appeals, and direct mail
  • Supporting online fundraising and crowdfunding projects
  • Assisting with fundraising at public and on-campus events
  • Managing projects from planning through delivery, ensuring deadlines and targets are met
  • Working closely with colleagues across the University to engage alumni and supporters
  • Supporting income generation activities aligned with centenary priorities
  • Some campaigns, such as telephone fundraising, will require occasional evening or out-of-hours work.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who is organised, enthusiastic, and confident working with people at all levels. You’ll be well suited to the role if you bring:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience planning and delivering projects
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
  • Good general IT skills and confidence working with digital tools
  • Previous fundraising experience (desirable but not essential)

Working Arrangements

  • This is a full-time role, typically working 9:00–5:00, Monday to Friday
  • Hybrid working is supported, with some days each week based at the Whiteknights Campus
  • The position is offered as maternity cover for approximately one year from February 2026
  • Applications are welcome from both external candidates and internal staff (secondment options available for existing employees)

Why Join the University of Reading

  • Be part of a respected UK university during its centenary year
  • Work in a supportive, collaborative fundraising team
  • Contribute directly to student support, research, and community impact
  • Access flexible working options where possible
  • Join an institution committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion

The University is proud to support the Athena SWAN Charter, the Race Equality Charter, and LGBT+ equality, and is a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2).
