Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable, and motivated Diagnostic Radiographer to join our expanding Cross‑Sectional Imaging team in Shropshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a radiographer who is keen to strengthen existing CT or MRI skills while gaining comprehensive training across both modalities.
You will be based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and work within a supportive, forward‑thinking department that values learning, innovation, and professional development. Our 12‑hour shift pattern operates across a seven‑day service, offering a strong work–life balance while supporting our growing 24‑hour CT and MRI provision.

- CT: Siemens Definition and Edge scanners
We provide a broad and varied imaging service, including:
- Cardiac CT and MRI
- CT colonography and enterography
- CT‑guided interventional procedures
Breast MRI
Radiographers rotate across all scanners and play a key role in our new, purpose‑built imaging hub, designed to support safe, efficient, and patient‑centred care.
Key Responsibilities
As a senior member of the Radiology team, your responsibilities will include:
- Producing high‑quality CT and MRI examinations in line with departmental protocols
- Supporting modality superintendents in the delivery of a safe and effective service
- Supervising and mentoring students, apprentices, and newly appointed staff
- Maintaining competence in IV cannulation and contrast administration
- Contributing to service development, quality improvement, and audit activity
- Ensuring compliance with IR(ME)R 2017 and local governance standards
Education, Training, and Development
We are a recognised training site for universities including Birmingham and Keele, and we support apprentices from across the UK. Teaching and mentorship are integral to this role, and all radiographers with more than one year of post‑qualification experience actively contribute to student development.
The department strongly encourages role extension. Current radiographers are trained in areas such as ultrasound, barium studies, CT colonography, and plain‑film reporting, with clear pathways for further professional growth.
