Job Description

Overview of the Role

We are looking for motivated, forward-thinking diagnostic radiographers to become part of our growing cross-sectional imaging team in Shropshire. This opportunity is ideal for radiographers eager to expand their skills in CT and MRI within a supportive and progressive department. Applicants must hold a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or DCR, be registered with the HCPC, and demonstrate enthusiasm for developing advanced practice.

Experience in CT or MRI is advantageous, but full modality training will be provided.

What You Will Be Doing

  • As a key member of the Radiology service, you will:
  • Deliver high-quality CT and MRI imaging following departmental protocols.
  • Work within 12-hour shift patterns over a 7-day week to support excellent work-life balance.
  • Rotate across all scanners within the main department and our newly developed imaging hub.
  • Maintain cannulation proficiency for administering IV contrast media.
  • Support senior radiographers and contribute to the smooth operation of the service.
  • Participate in CT and MRI on-call rotas once fully inducted.
  • Take an active role in teaching and mentoring undergraduate radiography students and apprentices.
  • Our Imaging Environment
  • You will work with a variety of Siemens systems, including:
  • 3 MRI scanners (Magnetom Aera and Sola).
  • 3 CT scanners (Definition and Edge).

Scan types include: cardiac CT/MRI, CT colonography, CT intervention, enterography, breast MRI and more. The Trust strongly encourages professional extension—radiographers in the department already practise in areas such as ultrasound, barium swallows, CT colonoscopies and plain-film reporting.

About the Department

We are expanding our cross-sectional imaging workforce to support a 24-hour MRI service, complementing our established 24-hour CT provision. You will join a welcoming and skilled team based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, with excellent on-site teaching facilities and strong links to Birmingham and Keele universities.
