Job Description

Role Overview

As a Senior Django Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering new backend features, optimizing existing systems, and collaborating closely with frontend engineers and product owners. You will own your work end-to-end, from architecture and coding to monitoring performance and iterating rapidly based on user feedback.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and optimize backend services using Django and Django Rest Framework.
  • Design scalable, high-performance APIs and database schemas (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver Open API specifications and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor backend performance with tools like Datadog and iterate quickly based on insights.
  • Optimize endpoints and queries to handle databases larger than 100GB with minimal downtime.
  • Actively contribute to technical decisions, architecture discussions, and roadmap planning.
  • Ensure high-quality code and production readiness in a fast-paced, iterative environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of backend development experience with Django/Django Rest Framework.
  • Proven experience with relational databases at scale and performing production migrations.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL databases >100GB.
  • Strong understanding of API design, documentation, and developer support.
  • Pragmatic, solution-focused mindset with strong ownership and initiative.
  • Fluent in English (French is optional).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a distributed team environment.
