Role Overview
The Student Casework Manager (SCM) will manage complex student-related cases across complaints, disciplinary procedures, and criminal convictions. Working alongside a fellow SCM, the postholder will ensure cases are handled efficiently, fairly, and sensitively, adhering to University policy and national sector guidance.
The role involves:
- Leading high-risk or sensitive cases, including sexual misconduct investigations.
- Clerking Misconduct Panel Hearings and advising senior decision-makers.
- Supporting the development and enhancement of casework processes, training, and systems.
- Engaging with national sector developments in complaints, student discipline, and safeguarding.
- The SCM will work closely with Professional Services teams, Academic Faculties, and other stakeholders to ensure a positive student experience while mitigating reputational and legal risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex student complaints, disciplinary cases, and criminal conviction notifications.
- Provide guidance and advice to senior leaders on case outcomes, ensuring decisions are proportionate, lawful, and defensible.
- Act as a key liaison with external regulators and sector bodies, ensuring compliance with best practice.
- Develop and maintain robust casework systems, policies, and procedures.
- Support training initiatives and embed trauma-informed, equity-focused approaches.
- Monitor emerging trends in student casework to improve institutional practice.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree-level education or equivalent.
- Experience as a caseworker, ideally in higher education (HE) or criminal justice settings.
- Proven skills in investigation, risk management, and handling sensitive or distressing cases.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical, organisational, and project management skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with staff, students, and external partners.
- Resilient, diplomatic, and able to work independently while supporting colleagues.
IT Competence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and casework management systems.
- Ability to efficiently manage workload and contribute to team projects.
