Overview of the Role

Sherwood Forest Hospitals is seeking a dynamic and experienced Maternity Ward Leader to take a key leadership role within the Sherwood Birthing Unit. This fixed-term opportunity is ideal for a motivated clinical leader who is passionate about delivering safe, responsive, and high-quality maternity care to women, birthing people, and families across Nottinghamshire.

Working closely with the Matron for the Sherwood Birthing Unit, Triage, and Planned Care, you will lead a high-performing intrapartum service that supports both low-dependency and high-dependency maternity care, including the operational oversight of two obstetric theatres. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping standards, promoting professional excellence, and fostering a compassionate environment for both service users and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, confident, and supportive leadership within a busy intrapartum setting
  • Oversee clinical practice, ensuring care is safe, evidence-based, and aligned with national maternity standards
  • Lead on clinical governance, risk management, incident review, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Manage staffing levels and workforce planning to maintain safe and effective service delivery
  • Support the wellbeing, development, and performance of clinical teams, promoting a culture of learning and accountability
  • Work collaboratively across maternity pathways, ensuring smooth care transitions and positive experiences for families
  • Uphold compliance with NMC professional standards, Trust guidelines, and regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and multidisciplinary teamwork
