About the Role
The Department of History at the University of Sussex invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Professor position in Modern History.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and supervision across a range of modules focused on the 19th and 20th centuries, including lectures, seminars, assessments, and dissertation supervision.
You will join a vibrant, research-led, and collaborative department known for its interdisciplinary focus and commitment to global and comparative approaches to historical study. The department was ranked 4th in the UK for research impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF).
About You
You will hold (or be near completion of) a PhD in Modern History and bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- History of Science
- History of Emotions
- Global and Connected Histories
You will demonstrate:
- A developing research and publication profile.
- Teaching experience in the UK Higher Education sector.
- Strong communication and student support skills.
- The ability to supervise undergraduate dissertations (experience desirable).
- A collaborative and team-oriented approach to academic work.
