Job Description

About the Role

The University of Sussex is seeking a Senior Communications, Marketing and Audience Development Officer to join its newly formed Division of Library, Culture and Heritage.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver creative communications and marketing strategies that raise the Division’s profile locally, nationally, and internationally. You will focus particularly on promoting the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) — a vibrant, interdisciplinary arts hub that connects the University with the wider cultural community through a diverse public programme of performance, dance, live art, film, music, and debate.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of communications, marketing, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Manage and expand ACCA’s digital and social media presence.
  • Coordinate promotional activity and partnerships with external organisations.
  • Build strong internal and external relationships to enhance visibility and participation.
  • Champion the values of inclusivity, creativity, and access to the arts inspired by Sir Richard Attenborough.

About You

  • You are a dynamic and experienced communications or marketing professional with:
  • Proven experience working in arts, culture, or creative sectors.
  • Excellent copywriting, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience managing photography, video, and creative content production.
  • Confidence in developing and executing marketing strategies for cultural audiences.
  • A passion for the arts, culture, and public engagement.
  • Knowledge of the arts and heritage landscape in Sussex would be an advantage, though not essential.

About the Division

The Library, Culture & Heritage Division, established in 2024, brings together:

The University of Sussex Library — a leading academic research facility supporting learning, research, and civic engagement.

The Keep — a major archive and historical resource in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council.

Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) — a multidisciplinary arts venue hosting world-class creative programming.

This newly integrated Division is developing its first strategic plan, making this an exciting moment to join and help shape its future direction.
