Job Description

About the Role

The University of Sussex is mid-way through an ambitious digital transformation programme, including the launch of a new website and content operating model. As part of this transformation, we are seeking a proactive and collaborative Content Designer to join our Content Strategy Team.

You will play a key role in migrating content from our current content management system (CMS) to a new platform, ensuring content meets user needs and aligns with University brand, accessibility, and web standards.

Our content designers create and manage user-centred digital content, balancing the needs of audiences with the University’s strategic and operational goals. You will advocate for best practices in content design, including SEO optimisation, accessibility, and evidence-based decision making informed by analytics and user research.

This role requires excellent stakeholder management, problem-solving ability, and a passion for improving digital user experiences.

About You

You are a collaborative and thoughtful communicator who understands that successful digital transformation involves both people and systems. You can:

Actively listen and ask insightful questions to understand challenges and user needs.

Work independently to deliver results and make informed recommendations.

View digital content and services from the user’s perspective while maintaining institutional priorities.

Demonstrate strong writing, editing, and attention to detail, switching easily between strategic and detailed tasks.

You will have experience in:

  • Creating clear, accessible, and engaging digital content.
  • Using analytics, testing, and research to inform content decisions.
  • Working collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Applying SEO and web usability best practices.

A background in content design, UX writing, or digital communications within large or complex organisations will be an advantage.

About the Division

The role sits within the Communications, Engagement and Advancement (CEA) Division, which supports the University’s strategic objectives by attracting high-quality students, engaging partners, and maintaining strong relationships with alumni and supporters worldwide.

The division also leads institutional growth strategies, advancing Sussex’s global profile and enabling research and educational excellence.
