Job Description

About GE Aerospace

At GE Aerospace, we’re redefining the future of flight — designing and delivering world-leading jet engines, components, and integrated systems for both commercial and military aviation. Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Through FLIGHT DECK, our lean operating model, we foster a culture built on respect, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Here, you’ll do more than just work — you’ll help invent the future of sustainable aviation, shaping technologies that will enable the next generation of flight.

Role Summary

As a Manufacturing Engineer (NPI), you’ll play a pivotal role in bringing our latest generation of propulsion systems to life. You will translate design concepts into efficient, reliable, and scalable manufacturing solutions, ensuring that new products are ready for full-scale production.

Working closely with design, materials, and process engineering teams, you will define manufacturing processes, lead facility design, introduce automation, and validate new technologies through pilot-line implementation. Your goal: to build a production system that embodies Lean principles, manufacturability, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing plans — including cell layouts, value stream maps, and process flow diagrams — to maximise efficiency, reduce cost, and ensure capability and reliability.
  • Collaborate across functions to integrate failure-mode avoidance strategies and shape industrialisation plans aligned with business goals.
  • Influence design decisions to ensure manufacturability and assembly considerations are prioritised throughout product development.
  • Champion APQP and PPAP processes, creating PFMEAs, control plans, and facility requirements to deliver capable, compliant processes both in-house and within the supply chain.
  • Lead pilot-line development to define the blueprint for scalable production facilities, showcasing innovation, automation, and Lean manufacturing systems.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and sourcing teams on equipment and tooling acquisition, installation, and commissioning.
  • Support value engineering to inform make-or-buy decisions on core and non-core components.
  • Use virtual manufacturing tools to simulate workflow, automation, and layout to support investment planning.
  • Act as the manufacturing focal point for NPI, coordinating cross-functional collaboration and resolving technical challenges with data-driven solutions.

Desired Skills and Experience

Proven experience with robotics, automation, and controls system specification, installation, and commissioning.

Expertise in one or more of the following:

  • High-volume composite manufacturing (CFRP/RTM)
  • CNC machining
  • Hydraulic systems
  • High-tolerance assembly
  • Non-destructive testing (X-ray/Ultrasonic)
  • Proficiency in 3D CATIA, AutoCAD, or other CAD platforms.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries (aerospace preferred, but not essential).
  • Familiarity with 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and digital manufacturing tools.
  • Knowledge of real-time data acquisition, condition-based monitoring, and digital factory integration.
  • Competence in virtual manufacturing simulations and process flow optimisation software.
  • Understanding of financial analysis including Net Present Value (NPV) and Future Value (FV) calculations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong background in Manufacturing Engineering within an NPI environment, including facility design and automation implementation.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, or RedX problem-solving methodologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of APQP principles within manufacturing facility design and process development.
  • Experience managing external vendors, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and Construction Design & Management (CDM) regulations.
  • Proactive, self-driven, and able to work independently toward business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and influence skills at all organisational levels, backed by a data-driven approach.

Flexible Working

GE Aerospace supports flexible working arrangements to promote a positive work-life balance. Options can be discussed during the hiring process.

Total Reward

GE Aerospace offers a comprehensive FlexChoice benefits package, allowing employees to tailor benefits to suit individual needs. Standard benefits include:

  • Non-contributory pension
  • Life assurance
  • Group income protection
  • Private medical cover

26 days’ annual leave (pro rata), with the option to buy or sell holiday days

Security Clearance

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance. If BPSS clearance cannot be obtained, employment may not proceed for national security reasons.
