Job Description
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed Division of Library, Culture and Heritage at the University of Sussex. The role focuses on developing and delivering impactful strategies to enhance the Division’s profile among internal, local, national, and international audiences.
As Senior Communications, Marketing and Audience Development Officer, you will play a key role in expanding the visibility of our core activities, particularly the public programme and campus community events at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA).
You will lead on developing the Division’s online and social media presence, managing external communications, and coordinating partnerships and collaborations. The role also involves building strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and leading on communications and storytelling to engage audiences effectively.
Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) is an interdisciplinary arts hub connecting the University with regional, national, and international creative communities. It presents a diverse seasonal programme of performance, dance, live art, film, music, discussion, debate, and digital arts.
ACCA is inspired by the values championed by Sir Richard Attenborough, former Chancellor of the University of Sussex — including human rights, social justice, creative education, and access to the arts for all.
About You
You will be an experienced communications and marketing professional with a strong understanding of different art forms and experience working with artists, producers, promoters, and creative organisations.
You should have:
A passion for arts and culture, and a commitment to broadening access to the arts.
Proven experience in copywriting, editing, and storytelling across multiple platforms.
Experience managing or directing photography and filming projects.
Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships.
An understanding of the arts, culture, and heritage sector in Sussex would be desirable, though not essential.

The Library, Culture & Heritage Division, established in 2024, brings together three key areas:

The Keep archive service (in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council)

This newly established Division is developing its first strategic plan, making it an exciting time to join and help shape its direction.
