Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a qualified solicitor or barrister to provide timely, solution-focused legal advice on a wide range of matters affecting the University. Working collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues, you will contribute to delivering effective legal support and promoting a culture of compliance and risk awareness across the institution.
This position is ideal for a qualified lawyer seeking their first in-house role, a move into the higher education sector, or an experienced higher education legal practitioner looking for a new opportunity.
About You
You will be a solicitor or barrister qualified in England and Wales with a current practising certificate and a sound understanding of legal areas relevant to higher education — such as public law, contract law, employment law, intellectual property, and regulatory law.
You will be a strategic thinker with strong risk awareness, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to plan and prioritise effectively. A commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) and to supporting legal awareness among colleagues is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is also required.
About the Division
The Division provides expert legal, governance, information management, and risk management advice to support the University’s strategic and operational goals.
We promote good governance, informed decision-making, and compliance with key legislative and regulatory requirements, helping the University to manage risk effectively while realising new opportunities.
