About the Role
The History Department at the University of Sussex invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Modern History.
In this role, you will contribute to teaching and research in nineteenth- and twentieth-century history, delivering lectures, seminars, and dissertation supervision. You will also provide academic support to students, undertake marking and assessment, and contribute to the department’s wider academic community.
You will join an innovative and collegial History Department with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary and global approaches to historical study. The department is proud to have been ranked 4th in the UK for Impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF).
About You
You will hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in Modern History and will demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas:
History of Science
History of Emotions
Global and Connected Histories
You will have:
An emerging publication record appropriate to career stage
Teaching experience within the UK higher education sector
Strong communication and organisational skills
A proven ability to support and engage students effectively
Experience in supervising undergraduate dissertations is desirable.
You will also be expected to work collaboratively and contribute positively to the department’s friendly and team-oriented environment.
