About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Research Midwife to join our Obstetric Research Team at University Hospitals Sussex (UHSussex). This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in improving outcomes for birthing people and their babies through innovative clinical research.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route, provided applicants meet all specific UKVI requirements, including relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25,000) and any role-specific eligibility criteria.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Midwife, you will:
Deliver high-quality care and support across a portfolio of obstetric research studies.
Coordinate and manage day-to-day research activities, ensuring effective recruitment, participant retention, and adherence to study protocols.
Independently assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for study participants, involving families and carers where appropriate.
Ensure all treatment and care are delivered in accordance with research protocols, ethical guidelines, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of participant data and study progress.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, academic institutions, and industry partners to ensure studies are delivered to target and on time.
Provide leadership within the obstetric research portfolio, offering guidance to colleagues and supporting new investigators.
Promote research awareness across the Trust, championing innovation and evidence-based practice.
Contribute to performance reporting, governance reviews, and continuous service improvement.
Lead by example in delivering compassionate, patient-centred care while driving clinical excellence.
About You
You are a registered Midwife with experience in clinical or research settings, passionate about advancing maternity care through evidence-based practice.
Essential skills and experience include:
Strong clinical midwifery knowledge, ideally with specialist experience in obstetrics or maternity care.
Experience coordinating or supporting clinical research studies.
Proficiency in data collection, patient monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving research and clinical priorities.
